This competency assesses the CNAs understanding of both legislative requirements and clinical understanding of the medications included in the standing orders they are working under.
Legislative considerations include
- Where to prescribe specialised analgesia/ stat doses / regular medications
- How to prescribe appropriately annotate a standing order
- How to clearly prescribe a dose change- cross out and re-chart do not amend
- Documentation in notes of discussion with prescriber
- Commence at range/parameters
